Hi Sylvain I had a problem similar to yours, and I worked out fine fixing my classic II. Let's start from the beginning.
A year ago or something a friend of mine in Rome (I'm from italy, so please excuse me for my english...) told me he had bought 20 non-working Classic II. I had one of them, but I didn't have the time to try to fix it before 2 months ago. I switched it on and had sometimes checkered sometimes striped b/w screen. On the repair reference manual of the classic II/performa 200 the diagnosis was catastrophic: replace power/sweep board or logic board. But I couldn't believe something made by apple didn't work that way :O)) I removed the mobo and saw some oily loss in some locations on the mobo, expecially around the capacitors. I heard from a friend of mine (electronic engineer) that this could be a problem, and to control moreover for interrupted circuits and to replace the 3,6V lithium battery. On sale you can find some specific products to clean the electronic circuits, but I'm used to the sturdiness of apple computers, and I decided to clean it with pure dishes detergent and a light-strong brush. After that, I washed the mobo in flowing water for 1-2 minutes, and then I dried it with the hair-drier (only cold air). I waited 3 days so that every small particle of water was dried (in particular inside the holes of the external adapters), and then I put it back in the case. I also changed the battery. In the beginning I saw no more b/w screen, but a white screen with light thin black horizontal lines. I leave it on for two or three hours while I was working on another computer, and around midnight, it came back to life :O)) From that moment, I had no more problems with my classic II. I suggest at first to replace battery and see if that's the only problem. After that, if it still doesn't work, you can proceed to clean the mobo. let me know! leonardo -- "I guess only things with souls live forever" Marten van der Kraats on http://lowendmac.com/myturn/2k1129.html > Hello everyone! > > I have a Mac Classic II that hasen't work for some time.
