Could be a couple of things. First, make sure that the selection lever is 
not set to envelope or some such.

If the print head makes an "impression" on the paper then is sounds like 
the ribbons may be dried up. In the "olden days" there were devices which 
could reink the ribbons. Haven't seen one for many years, but...

As for refitting new ribbons, that could be a bit of a challenge. It is a 
sort of continuous loop inside the housing. I think you can still buy new 
cartridges for the things. One of the local Apple dealers still uses one 
to print invoices and such as it will do carbon copies rather well.

Guess I will have to get my old Imagewriter II out and give it a test 
run. Noisy old clunker, but worked like a draft horse!
