Dear Compact mac list, I have a Daystar Universal Powercache 68030 CPU upgrade card. From the markings on the chip (MC68030RC50B) I assume that that means that it is a 50 mhz 68030! The card itself is has a PDS slot, but it is attached to an adapter card that connects to whatever slot is in the SE. This was pulled from a used SE. Ok, now all is well and good, but here is the problem. When I boot it on an SE, all I get is a grey screen, no happy mac, no ? folder, nothing, just a grey screen that sits there forever. With a little finagalling I got it to go into an SE/30 without the adapter card and it booted even more poorly. All I got there was a black screen and the chime kept trying to play over and over again. So, am I doing something wrong or is the card just busted? I have not loaded any special software on either the SE or the SE/30 and all I can find on the Internet is MODE32, which I assume you install after you install the card, and still doesn't explain the SE not working (since MODE32 won't work on an SE). I wish there were some serial numbers on the card to help you out, but there really doesn't seem to be. All of the PCBs to have DayStar DIGITAL silkscreened on them. Here is a picture of what the card looks like: http://homepage2.nifty.com/56thWAREHOUSE/COMPACTMAC/TWINSLOTLC.html , mine is the third pic from the top, my adapter card doesn't look like that one, that is for an LC. (mine doesn't have a co-processor). So any help? Perhaps there is something I am doing wrong.
