Hi! I'm Antonio Rodrguez, a.k.a. _Grijan_, from Spain. I joined this list a few days ago, and this is my first post, so I felt I should introduce myself.
I have loved Macs forever, and a week ago a friend of mine has given me an old Macintosh that nobody were using: a Classic expanded with 40 Mb of disk and 2 Mb of RAM. Inside the disk, it has System 6.0.7 and a few applications (SuperDraw, WriteNow, HyperCard viewer...). I also have been able to download a number of utilities (including ResEdit 2.1, yum! :-) ) and games with my PC, put them in 1.44 Mb disks and install them in the Macintosh (it was a real pain to copy ShrinkIt Expander, but after that all gone without problem). Ok, let's start with the questions :-) . 1) I would love to create HyperCard stacs, but I only have the free viewer. HyperCard is supossed to be commercial software, but searching the web I've seen that Apple has dropped its development. Where can I download the full version of HyperCard from? 2) How can I convert documents from WriteNow to MS Word and back? Where can I get a version of MS Word and/or MS Excel that works on my Classic? 3) I have a number of 1 Mb, 30-contact SIMMs obtained from broken 386-based PCs. Can I use them to upgrade my Classic to 4 Mb? If so, do I have to take anything into account when doing that? How should I set the jumpers in the memory expansion board? 4) Where can I obtain the information on how to build a cable to connect an ImageWriter I to the MiniDIN port of my Classic? 5) With some of the file types (if not all), it happens to me that when I try to open the file from the Finder, it says me that the application can't be found. But when I open the application, the file shows in the open dialog, and I can open it without trouble. How can I fix it? 6) Where can I obtain a mouse for an old Mac (128/512/Plus)? You know, the kind of mouse that is *NOT* ADB, but connects to the back of the Mac using a DB-9 connector. Of course, it isn't for my Classic (that has no DB-9 mouse port), but for my Apple //c (my first computer); this kind of mouse works fine in the joystick/mouse port of the Apple //c. Thank you in advance for your answers :-) . Greetings, Antonio Rodrguez (Grijan) -- Compact Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/>.
