I use Mark of the Unicorn's (MOTU) Performer version 5.02 on an SE/30
currently. It is the best, IMHO.
It requires a key disk authorization to the HD.
You'd have to find someone willing to sell/trade/give you their
no-longer-used floppies. That wouldn't be me, at least not yet.
Any version up to at least 5.5 will work. Call/visit their web site to see
if Performer 6 (current MIDI-only version) will run on that.
There's a big benefit to using a USB MIDI interface. It's called MIDI Time
Stamping (MTS) and greatly increases the timing accuracy. Probably have to
run that on your PowerBook.
You could join the MOTU-Mac user group on Yahoo and see if someone on the
list has an old copy they'd part with. Most people on the list are running
Digital Performer (MIDI + audio) version 3.11.

Good luck,

Mac Man Mark
