The Mac only has "Macintosh" on the back which I believe is the 128K that existed before the Fat Mac was released.
I've had a "Macintosh 128K" so that's why I know.
It also has the 64KB ROMs.
All of the above sounds promising.
However, I would like to know whether the following two are at all significant:
1- There are no signatures inside the case (in the mould)
The signatures aren't always clear. If you've seen a couple of back cases, you'll know what I mean. Can you confirm that the back case appears to be the original fitting? A Mac 128 should have signatures.
2- There is no serial number, and I don't mean it's been
scratched off, there does not appear to ever have
been one.
The serial number should be on the front ledge under the CRT by the brightness knob. It's only a sticker and is easily removed.
Is this a normal Mac 128K or ?
It sounds like it might be pre production. Without photos, you aren't going to get a confirmation. As Jeff Garrison suggested, compare the motherboard picture with those on the net. Look for chip dates on the motherboard too -- four digit numbers in wwyy format where ww is the week number and yy is the year.
