How big do the "motherboards" tend to be for DVD players ?
The chassis on a typical DVD player is roughly 19" -- the same as hi-fi separates and VCRs (I won't mention Betamax here for obvious reasons...). Given that the mechanism for a DVD reader is about 5.25" wide, assume that the designers of consumer DVD players have used the rest of the 19" space freely. I'd be surprised if there was anything that absolutely required a 19" chassis but you may find that the LCD displays and associated circuits expect a lot of "free space" around them. They may be difficult to squeeze into 9.5" -- the usable space underneath a compact Mac.
Assume that the question is "possible" but that you may ned to disassemble a few DVD players before you find one that can be taken apart sufficiently to fit in the space below a compact Mac.
