A program called, "Welcome 1.2.1" makes it easy to alter the wording of the
initial splash screen. I have an SE whose screen opens to the words,
"Welcome To The Venerable Old SE".

Also, there's DeskPICT, (?), a startup program that lets you put a B/W photo
into your startup activities.
