It might be the OS. I seem to remember that with system 7. something.something we got the ability to skip memory testing.

Amen! My little guy takes about 15 minutes.

Joe

My SE/30 must be an F1 machine as it takes only 3 minutes and 20 seconds to startup with 128 MB but it appears also one of the last ones manufactured in Cork, Ireland. The original sticker says Jan. 92. Mysterious!

Greetings, Andre.

This is what mine takes, too, 3 minutes something; and it is a 1989 SE 1/20 (there were special university rebates at the time for this configuration) upgraded to SE/30 immediately after I bought it; saved me about 2000 DM on an original SE/30. No F1, just Norman Normal. The amazing one is Joe's 15 minute speed demon. Other numbers, someone? Any ideas why one 16 MHz 68030 machine could take so long while others do it faster? Just for comparison, and trying not to get OT: did someone take the time a, say, 128 MB IIci takes to check its RAM? Ought to be slightly faster, taking account of the faster processor speed, but there could be some influence by the weird video memory usage, too.

Cheers, OM
