On many models (including the early compacts), you can bypass the ram test by having the mouse button down when you first power on. Keep it down until it's clearly waiting for you to let it go (e.g., blinking floppy icon appears, etc.). If you're impatient like me, this ritual is an absolute must. --Cheers, Tom -- Prof. Thomas H.
