Just download Apple CD ROM software set 5.04 it will do fine. I used it in a
Mac PLus. It's the CD ROM extension and all the format-reader extensions
like high sierra, etc.

Use a SCSI cable with Centronics connectors at both ends to gang the CD ROM
and external hard disk together, and a SCSI cable with a Centronics
connector at one end and a 50 pin SCSI connector at the other to go into
Your SE. Don't forget the terminator on the first SCSI device after the SE.

If you're using an SE, there's only 4-one meg RAMsticks in it. You can get
more 1 meg RAM for free just about anywhere.

Yes. Just make the external the startup drive and add a system folder to it.

Sure it would. The limits on size are pretty much the operating system. I
stop at 2 gigs in any compact. Access time is too slow for me any larger
than that.
