I have to agree there - I did a mod on a IIcx to fit a 7100 Logic Board. I had to do substantial amounts of surgery where the ports came out at the back to allow it to fit and to allow access to all the ports.
I have to sat I'd be very scared of a Dremel - for one thing it gets very hot and melts the plastic which is asking for trouble and secondly it has a lot of momentum of it's own which means it can take a walk in the wrong direction. On the other hand the hacksaw blade offers total control. It also gives you arm ache an takes hours but that's part of the craft!
I would also advise you have a set of course files and a a set of smaller fine files. The fine ones clog quickly so they really can only be used for touch up work, I used course metalwork files for removing material and the fine ones to square up corners and take out any > marks.
Encouraged by this, I've finally made a back-panel for one of my Mystics! Better late than never.
A pleasant half hour in a big DIY chain enabled me to find a 'PullSaw' with 26pts/inch, also known as a 'Dowel Saw' since it removes the ends of dowels when making furniture.
Search for "Sharksaw Dowel Saw 165mm" at http://www.diy.com/ to see what I'm on about. It cuts like a proverbial knife through butter.
The Mystic back-panel was a half-hour job.
For longer cuts, I might go for something with a slightly more rigid blade, like the "Fine Cutting Saw 17 Points 270mm/17Pt" at the same site.
As Mark says, certainly beats a Dremel for cutting!
