I think I won't need that extension after all. I have tried all the applications contained in the hard disk (AppleWorks, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Works and a couple smaller ones I can't renmember their names now), and all of them run without problem. And after a bit of Googling, I have learned that the CFM-68 runtime comes by default with System 7.6.1 update, so probably it's there not because any app uses it, but because the updater installed it. > >Is there something I can do to the > >internal drive to let the Classic II to boot from the external drive > >with the internal connected and the CFM-68 extension active? > > Try disabling the Apearance Manager extension instead. > Otherwise, a clean install of 7.6 followed by 7.6.1 would eliminate the > hacks that Bill added. Then once that's working go on from there.' > And a session with Disk First Aid should be the first thing. I'm not going to use that system to run the computer daily. It's too slow - both Word and AppleWorks take up to 30 seconds to boot. And what I love of Compact Macs are that they are simple and fast. I'm going to make a clean install of System 6.0.8 (the smaller the Classic II will run with) in other disk, and keep the 7.6.1 to "show the world" what that computer can do - at the expense of speed. Because of that, I would like to keep all those nice features installed if possible. And anyway, System 7.6.1 in a machine five years earlier than it isn't much slower than Windows 95 in a machine of it's time... and that says much in favour of the Apple guys! :-)) Of course, I checked *both* drives for errors and rebuilt the desktop files before posting the first message... I haven't tried to zap the PRAM, but I don't think it would help. Greetings, Antonio Rodrguez (Grijan) <ftp://grijan.cjb.net:21000/> -- Compact Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/>.
