Stuart -

How about voting on three items:

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Y N 1. Do you want to add a swap day to the list?

If your answer is (Y)es, then vote yes on ONLY ONE of the following:

Y N 2. Do you prefer a once a week swap?
Y N 3. Do you prefer a once a month swap?
---------------------------------------------------------------------

These three questions cover almost all the really important parameters that
most have voiced an opinion on. And limiting it like this makes it easy to
tabulate & see the "consensus".

And we can - and should - give it another day or so to publicly express
ourselves ...and ONLY on the three questions everyone(!), prior to putting
it to the final vote.

As for myself, I would prefer the once a month option ...I can't see the
point in once-a-week for the stuff we're talking about here, and especially
so if the point of a "swap day" is essentially to be able to trade parts
amongst the members (and still keep to the core idea that Compact Macs is
primarily a Help & Ideas list) ...once every 30 days should be MORE then
often enough - especially given constraints of shipping - for the old-timers
here (and it would serve to avoid any tendency that might develop to turn
Compact Macs into a For-Sale list to people wanting to just dump masses of
common parts).

The real issue I see would be the collection of the posts for either
duration swap day: I mean, I don't quite understand how they're going to be
_easily_ done on any kind of basis, either monthly OR weekly ...but at least
every 30 days would make the administrative aspects easier (for whomever
it's tasked to).

Other then my aversion to having the list morph from something I quite enjoy
(and have for some years, off-and-on) into something that would make it
rather less enjoyable (I'm a long-time eBay'er after all, and my natural
tendency is to look there first) to read through & ponder, I think the swap
idea (so long as the interval between "swaps" makes things manageable) is
quite a good one, really ...I always thought One-Sale-Per-Year restriction
was a bit, umm, silly (but I QUITE appreciated it keeping the list devolving
into a For Sale list).

My two bits.
