Here is the update on the situation: I got an off-list email of the keystrokes to boot from the zip disk so I proceded to download OS 7.0.1 from Apple. After decoding and unstuffing, it brought up the disk image. When I open it with Stuffit Expander, version 7.0.1, it comes up with the following error:
An error has occurred attempting to mount a disk image Error #-43 The same happens when I download from Gamba's website. Is there something I am doing wrong? I have always had trouble with Disk Images, but now that I rely on them it is beginning to be a big problem. What should I use to mount disk images? > Today the system on my Color Classic (7.1) reported a system error in >the bomb dialog box (the one with the little bomb icon, and the restart >button never works) Well, when I restart it comes up with a happy mac, >whirrs, then it makes a loud static-like sound. Then the flashing floppy >icon comes up (no system found). Speaking the obvious, I conclude that >either the system is corrupted, or the hard drive gave up the ghost, but >with the static sound, I tend to think it is the fault of the hard drive. > My second question, related to the first, is this: I have no cheap >alternative for a external hard drive and because of my lack of expirience >in compacts with crt's, I do not want to go rummaging around inside to >replace the hard drive (if the hard drive is the problem). I do have a zip >drive hooked up, though, and since I am not using the CC for many >disk-intensive applications, can I use the zip drive as the startup disk? >I know it requires a system extension to be recognized but I thought I >remembered somewhere that there was a key command to boot from the >zip....maybe it was my imagination. Anyway, if anyone has any ideas, >please post them. Thanks! > >-- >Andrew >a.k.a. the Mac Freak -- Andrew aka.
