Practicality dictates that you not go too far. It's pretty limited as to how "new" it can be made, inexpensively. You can only "max" out the RAM to 36MB. The CPU is a version of the Motorola 68040 with no MMU or FPU, making it more like an enhanced Motorola 68020. Stuff a full 68040/33 CPU in it, (a few bucks), load it with System 7.5.3 or 7.6 and get it a cheap external modem. I have an LC520 that's been in the closet for many months. I also had a motherboard from a 575, or similar, that I got to replace a flakey Mac TV mobo, if I should ever give up on the Mac TV being as-is, and they joined together last night and went for a ride on the internet. Using a 240MB hard disk, 24MB of RAM, and I.E. 4.0.1, it did a fairly decent job of navigating websites. Acceleration, if you GOTTA spend some more money, is out there, too. Maybe a PPC 601 card? Up the O.S. to 8.1. Still, ask yourself: How much is too much to spend on the effort? Jeff -- Compact Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/>.
