Wow.... After a few hours of cleaning and reorganizing the apartment,
I'm ready to start getting all the Classic Macs in shape. I've been
adjusting video and cleaning for the last week or so, and most of them are
doing great so far. The first thing I cannot figure out is how to get the
external SCSI drives running on the Pluses, and secondly a few software
issues related to networking/extensions.

I currently have the following setup, and the Plus just doesn't see
these hard drives.

 [Plus]===[Inline Term]==[HDD]==[Term]

I was under the impression that the SCSI chain needs to be terminated on
both ends in order to work. I also tried without the inline terminator, but
no go. Additionally, I have tried changing the SCSI ID, but I was under the
assumption that the Mac has an ID and the rest are all free. Any hints as
to what I'm doing wrong? I opened up the HD case and it has the Apple ROM
sticker (80 with the Apple Logo). So it's an 80MB Quantum HD, with Apple
ROMs. However, the SCSI HD setup Apple disk doesn't see it, everything I've
tried reports no SCSI device on the bus. I am using the SCSI cable that
came with a GCC Technologies FX/20 hard drive. It's a tall standing case,
and at one point during booting, it was seen by the Plus (came up with a
similar image to the drive case, asking to format). However, it ended up
erroring out. This was with no known special files installed to see it.
Any clues there? Hopefully I can get a HD running with a few of the
machines without built in ones. I have a HD SC20 coming to "match" the
Plus.

Secondly, I am hoping to install LocalTalk for a few games and file
sharing. What additional files do I need to install so I can lookup files
in the chooser? What versions of the OS support such things, for that
matter?

Finally, does anyone have experience with the System Savers for these
machines? I have one, but the fan makes a bit of noise, and I was curious
if there is any good known way to make it run smoothly again. I figure this
should help extend the life of the Plus.

Thanks!
Chris
