The G2/SCREEN adjustment pot was marginal. I was somewhat surprised
to learn that the Color Classic has external G2/SCREEN and G3/FOCUS
circuits (many have these inside the flyback/LOPT). Does anyone know specifics
about the G2/SCREEN and G3/FOCUS circuits? I'm specifically wondering if
the voltage outputs from the flyback/LOPT are taken from divider networks
like most flyback/LOPTS do or are they derived from a totally separate winding?
If the later, that would have certain positive implications about the long term
durability of the flyback/LOPT.
Thanks,
Jens

Hi all,
a few months ago I reported that my Color Classic (all original) has a brightness
flicker problem when it is warmed up. I received several notes advising me to
check for cold solder joints, so I finally took the machine apart and inspected
the analog board.
I found no cold joints around the connectors, but I did discover that two devices
(I believe they are high voltage diodes) have gotten quite warm over time. The board
is browned somewhat around these two devices. They are at location DL21 and
DL22 (middle of the board, near the RF cage).
Does anyone know what these do? The solder joints look very questionable.
Could they be responsible for the brightness flicker? Is the heating normal
or do I have additional problems?
The CC works fine otherwise. The screen is crisp and bright. The brightness flicker
is approx. between the 50% and 100% setting and affects the entire screen. The
frequency of the flicker is slow (several seconds between flickers).
Thanks for any advice!
