4.5 volts is the same as three 1.5 volt cells in series. If you're a bit handy with a 
soldering iron you can make one from 3 AA cells but you will need a meter to get the 
polarity right. Clean the contacts with a file prior to tinning.

I have been taking 9 volt batteries apart to get 6 cells. That makes 2 computer 
batteries for about a US buck. Alkaline is alkaline. Lithiums give longer shelf life 
but if Apple uses alkalines it matters not.
