Thank you. That works very well. It's also useful for converting my old Mac sound
collection to wav files I can play on a PC.

It won't play big files, however... It will only load files smaller than the available
amount of free memory. So my attempt to convert a 3 minute mp3 file to a WAV file
and then play the 12 Mb WAV file on the Plus with 4 Mb memory failed.

I'm a little confused about this. The docs that come with Sound Tool indicate:
If you have a very big sound file, set the memory size of the program to about 100k
bigger. If you dont have enough memory to do that then odds are the sound wont be
much use to you anyway, either way I can't help much. The program should be 32 bit
clean and virtual memory friendly so for someone with the right machine the limit would
be just short of 4Gb. That's not me so don't send me your very large
sounds.

This doesn't work with the Mac Plus running 7.1, but I'm curious whether that's a
limitation of OS 7.1 or a limitation of the 68000 chip.

I think you could program around this.

I don't know if it will play "big" files, but I believe I used to use "Brian's Sound Tool" back in the day. It worked well at converting and playing .WAV files. Make sure you check out the about box (if memory serves) if you are a fan of Douglas Adams.

Is there an au or wav player that works on the Mac Plus?
Especially one that will play big files.
