I have a small network of a beige g3 (os9.2.2) & pb5300 (os8.1) hooked up to an Ethernet router, and an se (sys6.8 w/ appleshare client) connected via localtalk (phonenet) using the "localtalk bridge" control panel.
The se can "see" the other Macs, but when I try to mount one of the drives I get a dialog: "the appleshare prep file needs some minor repairs. some appleshare startup information may be lost" and I can't seem to set it to mount one of the drives at startup (which makes sense since that is "appleshare startup information"). I got the same error using either of the other Macs as the "bridge" ( I thought it may be a os9 thing-- but it doesn't seem to be). When I connect via localtalk it works fine. If I connect via localtalk and set it to open at startup and then switch to the bridge and just boot the se it works fine-- it only gives me the error (and then subsequently refuses to mount at startup) *when I open the chooser on the SE* (????) any ideas? katzy -- Compact Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/>.
