Hello.
First posting to the list.
I have a Mac SE with a DaynaPort E/SE installed. It's running System 7.5.5 and MacTCP 2.0.6. I would like to get this connected to a Linksys WRT54G router using a wired connection.
Now, the WRT54G doesn't support bootp, and as far as I'm aware MacTCP doesn't support DHCP. I can't install OpenTransport, as I'm not running a machine with an '30 chip in it.
I would have thought the correct way to go about this would be to set MacTCP to obtain an address manually, set C as the class, set an IP address and set the gateway address as that of the router. Not too bothered about DNS at present - just simple IP-based LAN communication would be a start.
I've done this - in my case, 192.168.1.50 as the IP (tried others as well), 192.168.1.1 as the gateway, all DNS fields clear, no other options touched. The result? Nothing. Nada. No connection whatsoever, and also if I look at my router the LEDs for the wired connection haven't come on. However, plugging the cable into the SE's adapter causes the adapter to start regularly pulsing a green light, so I'm assuming the adapter is working. In addition, the hardware and software diagnostics supplied for that adapter all say everything is fine.
G'day Ian.
Same setup here sort of, well a classic instead of a SE and a linux box and switch rather than your very nice router. I also have the Link T rather than the E/SE
Setting are IP address 192.168.1.33, under the more button the gateway is 192.168.1.1, Class C subnet, DNS points at my DNS server and the "obtain address" set to *Dynamically* wierd but it works fine.
Builtin ethernet is selected in the mactpc window. also wierd.
Sounds like the converter is working, the Link T has three lights, yellow for power, green for connection - both of these come on when the convertor is powered and connected to the switch, the switch will show a light for the adaptor whether the mac is on or not. The third is a tranfer light which blinks madly when the Classic is powered up.
Your Router should accept static addresses as found under Appendix A.. ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pdf/wrt54g_ug.pdf
Sounds like your very close to having it work.
MacTPC can be a buggar to configure. chuck out the prefs and reconfigure, reinstall the software for th E/SE and try again if all else fails. there is also the intel website which carries some info for the DaynaPort, I can't find a page for the E/SE? but you may find something useful here http://support.intel.com/support/dayna/
Cheers
