Hi.

An SE/30 with a 20Meg drive arrived yesterday. I have a spare full-height 1Gig drive kicking about. and it would make sense to me if I swapped out the 20Mb and put in the 1Gig. Two things though -

Are there any problems with running a drive that size in an SE/30? Power draw, OS incompabilities (7.1 at the moment, 7.5.5 at some point in the future).

What can I use to format the 1Gig drive? The Apple formatter doesn't recognise it, and the Relax Utilities formatter I have won't go to 1Gig.

Thanks in advance for any information.

Cheers, Ian

Erm, I've just sent an email about System 7.5.3 and the link I included is quite relevant to you. Basically, that page (http://www.dur.ac.uk/p.e.brierley/vintage05.html) has a link to an article on Jag's house about disk sizes, and also describes Lido 7 as a suitable formatting program - I think it's available for download from System 6 Heaven.

Not sure about the power draw to the drive, but I seem to remember the SE support pages saying that (basically) an SE/30 will take any capacity of drive you want. May be worth checking with other folks before hand though!
