These days, I hope they're still plentiful and inexpensive enough as they were in my days some years back of collecting them. I have spare motherboards, (2), for my 6 Plusses. I have one spare analog board. I have spare floppy drives. They'll need a lube when they're placed in the Compact but they're stored working. I have 6 SEs with three indoors completely working. The six are kept as spare parts holders when needed. I have 3 Classics. All work. They'll be spare parts so one can continue to work. I have Three Classic II's but only one works. The other two are waiting for motherboards. My 512 and 128 are rarely used as spares of those are either too costly or hard to come by. There are a total of 3 working external 400k drives in my pile for the 128 and I use them on the 512, too. So, my recommendation is "spare parts" as a means of keeping the Macs alive. Heat is usually only a REAL problem on the fanless Macs. 128, 512, Plus. I keep a small fan running while I use them in the desert summers here, and try not to use them too long at one sitting.
