The external drives of the Apple IIgs are cream colored, while the Mac's externals are beige. I've made the working IIgs drives work on my Plusses. But because of the color differences, I use the Mac drives. Even an external 1.4MB drive will work as an 800k drive on the Plus. You can make a System 6.0.8. disk to fit on one floppy. Just choose the system for a Mac Plus install. You're on the right track about having an external floppy drive. It makes the Plus far more easily useable. Of course, an external hard disk makes it even more easy-to-use. I use mine as a purist. Just with two floppy disks. Jeff -- Compact Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/>.
