People are into computers for different reasons. Part of the
community is bound to stick around regardless, simply because they
like the old machines. Part of the community will move on regardless,
as newer machines meet their price point. I suffer from a bit of
both: I slowly upgraded as the 68040s became cheaper, but finally
stopped at the PowerPC models. With a lot of the community moving
on to first generation PowerPCs, I have found myself reaching back
in time and playing with the compact Macs (and branching out to
other machines, like the Amiga).

It will keep its base. As I mentioned, a lot of the drifters have
moved on to the first generation PowerPCs. As for new hardware:
we can only hope. The thing about the Apple II is that it is a
much more simplistic design. Part of the reason is hardware (it
is easier to handle slower bus speeds), but I think the big reason
is software (programming for the Macintosh is much more challenging
and the expectations are higher). Eventually we are going to have
our hands full with keeping these machines running. Fortunately
it sounds like most of the problems are with the built in video,
which doesn't use many custom components.

We will always exist! Please don't kill us off yet!
