Subject: Finishing a LocalTalk Bridge?
From: "Matt Jordan" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Okay, so I have my network of compacts (AppleTalk, via PhoneNet) and they
are all talking. I have a dedicated Mac running the latest LocalTalk
Bridge. The AppleTalk CP on this Mac is set to "Ethernet" and with the
LocalTalk Bridge CP installed, I can get full access to this machine via
the PhoneNet adapters so I know the CP is working. I also know that the
Ethernet on this Mac is working because it is connected to the internet
via this port.

The problem now is: when I try to connect to the compacts via a Mac OS X
machine, also confirmed to be on this network it says that "The AppleTalk
Stack is not present". Huh?

Doing a port-scan of the Mac at that IP on the network, I can see the open
ports but I can't get it to work with AppleTalk. How do I complete the
network so that I can talk to the compacts with Mac OS X?

Thanks a lot!

Matt

What version of OSX? Prior to 10.3, AppleTalk was turned off by default. It had to be switched on using Directory Services, in the Applications/Utilities folder.
FWIW, I have never been able to connect to any machine running less than X from one, although going up seems to work fine over an IP connection rather than Appletalk.
