Can such a thing run on an SE with a FDHD? I think
they should.

Several years before making SoftWindows, Insignia sold two PC/DOS emulators (SoftPC and SoftAT) for 68K Macs. Initially SoftPC was for the Mac II series but a 68000 version followed. This would work with the FDHD in an SE or with a Mac Plus with a DaynaFile PC drive. Even on a fast Mac II, SoftPC was s-l-o-w so I hate to imagine how it performed on an unaccelerated SE. These products periodically appear on eBay. The software predates DOS 6.x by several years (DOS 3.3 was supplied, I think) but it would be simple to test.

Those who really needed a fast DOS environment on an SE would have opted for the AST PC card which put a real 8088 PC inside a Mac. Alas, nobody ever made a 286 or 386 board for compact Macs to my knowledge.

And don't forget the Dayna MacCharlie box for the original Mac 128/512...
