Network Question

What's the best compact to look for with regards to setting it up so I 
can hook it into my LAN? I have a broken one now but it's piqued my 
interest so I wanted to go look for one I can play with on the LAN, and 
from lurking here I found out that some are easier then others. So which 
should I pick and do you know someone selling one! :P
