Here's an oddball question at 3am: I just tried using some old 800k floppies in my SE/30. I bought these at Goodwill about 2 years ago, and haven't opened them until just now. They're Sony disks DS/DD, but they seem heavier than a normal floppy, and they are harder to insert than more modern disks. Additionally, two of the three I've used won't eject properly (I have to "pry" it out with my fingernail) .
So the big question, did they change the standards for 3.5" floppy disks ever? I can't see any signs of them being warped, or otherwise damaged, and the three I've used all read and wrote properly. Incidentally, I was looking at the box they came in, and it listed the IBM PS/2, the Apple IIgs, Mac Plus, and SE as the models these disks will work with. It's been so long since I bought a floppy disk that wasn't already formatted (even if it was the wrong format), that the compatibility statement made me grin.
