Info where to source the "elusive long Torx 15" in different countries and
a lot of other useful stuff can be found at http://macfaq.org/index.shtml.

These lines led to the type of misunderstandings in a follow-up that makes
you smile. The 40 "GB" is a nowadays Freudian mistake, the HD mentioned is
a 40 MB without a doubt. The Plus would never have handled a 40 Gig beast.
"Physically the same size as the Mac Plus" means the footprint which was
very common these days, and an external drive under the Plus lifted the
screen to a more ergonomic position. I'd do what most of the replies to the
OP said, replace the fan (which is inexpensive) and keep the case, replace
the HD if necessary, they are often prone to stiction at that age, keep it
if functional. 40 MB is a lot for a Plus, as another poster said.

Getting back to the eternal Torx 15 subject, I can say that IMHO the best
solution to the problem was the original "MacOpener" that I have but which
is no more obtainable. But if you can't find what you need at the places
indicated at the pickle's FAQ in the above link, and shun the solution of
using a Torx 15 bit in a long enough magnetic handle (beware: some magnetic
handles are not slim enough for accessing the screws!), take a standard T
15 screwdriver (they are mostly 10 cm long, but you need about 12 cm to
open a compact Mac) and rasp the frontmost part of the plastic handle down
to a diameter that fits into the holes under the handle of the Plus. You
don't need the whole length of the handle to manipulate it. And never
forget that contrarily to all the following models, the Plus has a fifth
screw in the battery compartment!

Have fun, OM
