So I wonder why anyone would ever WANT to turn 32-bit addressing off...
There's a number of reasons, mainly old or incompatible software. One notable
case is the Apple //e Emulation Card's software, which will only run in
24-bit mode. Users that use it in a Mac with more than 8 Mb of RAM are forced
to continiously switch back and forth between 24- and 32-bit modes (rebooting
at each change!). Maybe you switched to 24-bit addressing in order to
troubleshoot an application.

Nope, I didn't touch the memory control panel. It seemed to do this spontaneously after I installed some new RAM. I know the 32-bit addressing was on before cause my system was only taking a couple MB's RAM before I changed the RAM. But I'll keep it in mind in case I run into some software I need to run that requires it. Thanks for explaining! I always appreciate demystification! I like to get friendly and familiar with my pet macs and I like to understand the quirks.
