If the computer locks while reading a disk, it can be a floppy controller problem. If that's true, the only way to solve it is a motherboard change. You better go and try to attach an external drive and see if it works... Of course, if you had access to an external drive, you wouldn't be asking this. But if I were in your shoes, I would seek an *external* drive instead an internal one. If it's the motherboard, when you replace it you will have two disk drives, and if after all it's the drive's mechanics, you can allways take the external drive from its case and put it into the Plus.
