Just remember when you use AOL's SMTP, they require port 587 for use.

As of last year, AOL also supports IMAP connections to their email system. I can't say I know of any IMAP clients for 68k Macs, but if there is one, it should work. Incoming mail server is imap.aol.com and outgoing is smtp.aol.com.

Subject: Re: SE/30 on the Internet
Probably could use Netscape 4.0.5, but it might be a bit slow on a 16MHz '030. I'd stick with either 2.0.2 or 3.0.4... AOL usually uses their own email system. Eudora and the like can't really access it. Same with the FTP software, unless he's going to be uploading stuff to other sites, in which case, good ole' Fetch 3.0.3 will do the job.

for Fetch, probably the Netscape site for the older versions of Netscape. I think the newest AOL software that runs on a 68K Mac is version 4... I remember a friend's PowerBook 520c being able to run it, then again, he
did
have a 603 upgrade in it... -J
Hey listers..
I sold a guy an SE/30 a few weeks back and I've been helping him set it
up
for e-mail and the like.
I've got a couple questions about Internet programs that will run on the SE/30.
I set him up with MacOS System 7.5.3. He has a cable Internet
connection,
so I used Open Transport and a Linksys router to get him online.
All that he has installed right now in the way of Internet programs is
that
primitive Samba (text-only?) web browser.
He mainly wants to use the machine for e-mail.
My questions are:
A) What is the latest version of Netscape Navigator and/or Internet
Explorer
than will run on the 68030 under System 7.5.3? He doesn't care about graphical stuff, really, but I'd like to get him the most modern browser possible for that hardware.
B) What would be the best e-mail program for him? His e-mail account is through AOL. I asked him if AOL uses POP3 or SMTP for e-mail and he told
me
he doesn't know what that means. Since I have no experience at all with AOL, perhaps someone on the list who uses/has used AOL could help me out here?
C) What is a good FTP program for that setup?
And also, a link or place to find these particular programs would be
nice,
too. :)
Thanks in advance,
Nat
