I've got two Mac Plusi: a beige 1MB and a Platinum one. Between them I have
a v2 ROM ("Lonely Heifers") and a v3 ROM ("Loud Harmonicas"). I'm looking
for anyone who has a v1 ROM ("Lonely Hearts"). If you have one, please let
me know off list. If you don't know, this is how you can find out:
1) Boot up with any System.
2) Then press the interrupt button* (the rear button on the bottom left-hand
side, facing front. If you do not have a programmer's switch, shine a
flashlight though the vent grill and carefully stick a plastic or wooden
toothpic through the vent grill hitting the rear round button).
3) Type at the prompt ">": DM400000 and press "return".
4) There will be a hexadecimal "dump" and you'll find the ROM version in the
top row, column 2 & 3 as follows:
4D1E EExx = v1 ("Lonely Hearts")
4D1E EAXX = v2 ("Lonely Heifers")
4D1F 81xx = v3 ("Loud Harmonicas")
*FYI -- If your Mac had more RAM installed but not the 128k ROM, you'll get
a System error dialog box and need to restart.
5) Press "G" and hit "return" and you'll be returned to the finder.
Most likely if you have a Platinum Plus or a 512ke or Plus upgraded Mac you
will not have the v1 ROM, though you might have a v2, unless you had a logic
board swap at some point with an older logic board. Only a beige Plus will
have a stock v1 ROM and likewise, unlikely a beige Plus will have a v3 ROM.
If you have a rare v1 ROM (according to Apple they only made about a month &
half worth) and are interested in doing a little more simple research, let
