The SE/30 has a 22KHz stereo audio output. The LC475 has an 8-bit stereo output. I think you are safe from the 'old-timer's'. The CC is capable of doing stereo, but is only wired for the right channel. There is a hack on Stuart's site linking to the instructions, but it requires some soldering. The only extension (that I'm aware of) is the Apple CD extension. There are others, to be sure, such as the Joliet et.al.
Robbie, the CD audio hasn't been put through to the CC. If you plug your headphone out (CD) to the mic in (CC) you'll still have to figure out a way to pipe the sound capture to your music app. Why not copy the CD to the hard drive (if you have the space) using a music app ala iTunes.

Initial reaction, no and LowendMac agrees (http://www.lowendmac.com/quadra/apmuc.html). It would be a great deal for those looking to upgrade an older Mac, though.

Yes - I can hear the cd audio via headphones - apple cd audio player doesn't produce sound from the CC - but I have had success (in mono) with MpegDec....
My color classic is now hooked to some JBL creature speakers - blaring out in Mono :)

Strange. ISTR I had Audio CD stereo from an external CD-ROM (NEC, driven by CharisMac software) on Apple Design Powered Speakers hooked to my SE/30's audio jack, not the CD-ROM's, with System 7.1 through 7.5.5. ISTR this worked with an LC 475, too. Is this Alzheimer coming, or could it be the OP (Robbie Johnstone) did not install the whole bunch of extensions coming along with the Apple CD driver, i.e. the various CD formats including "Audio CD"? Otherwise I'm pretty clueless on this one. Sorry to chime in this late, but I was away from my computer and the issue seems important to me.
