I know this is sort of off-topic, but I thought I'd
mention it here in case anyone else has been IIvxed
recently...
People who've been around a while probably know that
being IIvxed is when you buy a new computer and
immediately a newer faster one comes out. This, of
course, is from when the IIvx was introduced and the
Centris 650 showed up four months later.
I bought an iBook 12" last Monday. Eight days later
(today) the newer faster model came out. The big deal
is the extra 256MB RAM it comes with. I spent $75 on
it and I would still have that money if the new model
had been out.
My dad talked of a similar story from 1992 when he
bought an LC (the original aka LC I). He said that the
dealer offered him a few software choices out of it
and wound up getting a copy of Claris Resolve. (He
never used it and eventually just gave it to me,
figuring an IT guy could use a spreadsheet program.) I
don't know if this was just the dealer (Pittsburgh
Computer Store) or if it was an Apple offer.
I got my iBook at an Apple Store, if that means
anything in this. With my retirement coming up in less
than a month I know I need to really be careful with
my cash...
