CD-Sunrise is indeed a great driver, but from the rest of your post, it appears likely that you also want to listen to audio CDs. That, CD-Sunrise will not do, unfortunately.

Instead, head on over to the macdrivermuseum (now archived; the original is defunct; google for the new mirror site) and download Apple's version 5.3.1 drivers. Those support third-party drives. This support was removed in version 5.3.2, but you can steal pieces from 5.3.2 for iso9660 support, etc.

That said, I am not 100% sure that your 24x drive will play nice with the SE. My success with fast drives on a classic mac has been pretty dismal, so I'll be very interested in hearing how you make out.
