Andy,

The one thing that distinguishes apple-history.com from most other
similar resources is it's inclusion of the pre-mac computers.

For what it's worth, I tried adding printers years ago, before they
stopped making them. I wanted to be as thorough as I had been with the
computers, but it was incredibly hard to find information about
pre-laserwriter products. I don't want to do something unless it's
complete, and I no longer have time to do that kind of research.

Believe me, I've given this a lot of thought over the years. Adding
non-computer devices also means redesigning the database, since the spec
categories are different. Adding Newtons and iPods was a very big deal,
but required little or no changes to the database
structure, since they're basically computers. I know that even the
earliest laser printers had a CPU and RAM and could be described as
special purpose printers, but there's no place in my database, for
instance, for how much paper a computer can store, or at what DPI it
prints. Adding printers would take me the better part of a two weeks,
working full time, and I have a job already.

If I add printers, I'll have to add monitors, digital cameras,
clones, scanners, keyboards, mice, software, where does it end? I drew a
line arbitrarily at apple-branded computers nearly a decade ago, and I'm
afraid I'll have to stand there. Mactracker does an excellent job
filling this gap as an application. Someone else is going to have to
fill the gap on the web.

Feel free to pass this along to those who are interested.
