Unless someone can come up with a really clever idea, I am going to
call it quits on this experiment.
I can pull out an SE and try it... If I'm not mistaken, I have an NEC
CD drive and a 7.5.3 CD I can test it with.
It won't be for a while, though. My poor Compacts (And my whole
computer collection) are trying to hide from a swarm of bees living in
the basement :-P We're going to spray some bug killer all around the
basement, hopefully finding where they're coming from. But until then,
I won't be able to go down there.

PowerComputing machine as correct.

I tried a universal install of OS 7.5.3 and an SE specific install of
7.5.3. I burned the CD on a Yikes! Standard HFS Mac Volume Bootable
for both CDs.
Every time I started up with Shift-Option-Command-Delete, it would
spin up the drive, give the smily mac, and then instantly go to the
Black Screen with the sick mac and the 0000000F 00000002 error code.
Which I'm pretty sure means it doesn't like the software.
Unless someone can come up with a really clever idea, I am going to
call it quits on this experiment.
