Hmmm..., Running compiz-manager fixed the problem, as did simply adding the old fixes to ~/.config/compiz/fusion-icon: ignore-desktop-hints = true no-libgl-fallback = true indirect rendering = true loose binding = false sm-disable = true No more white cube. I have since removed the additional fusion-icon arguments keeping the default of: indirect rendering = true loose binding = false It now starts just fine. I don't know any more than that.
