Sam and Kristian have stated things about as accurately as you can. The root problem is that Compiz and Beryl each had imperfect but functional management structures. The reunited community has no organizational structure at all. Like Sam said, things get discussed on the forum or IRC then nothing happens until individuals or small groups just do what they want. I don't see any point in re-hashing how we got that way, but the bottom line is that we've lost most of the Beryl/Compiz-Fusion devs and all the compiz devs as well as many contributors such as myself. Something needs to be done if Compiz/Compiz-Fusion is to remain relevant. I wish I had a good solution. I tried for 6 months to bring some structure and organization to the community but got nowhere. I hoped that someone with more community support would take the lead. Sam and others have worked to keep the community together, but the same problems remain. I don't know if there is anything I can do to help, or if you even want my help, but I'm willing to talk about solutions and go from there.
