I've seen something similar, where windows can get arbitrarily moved

Maybe it could be the same bug?

Hello, first of all I would like to thank everyone for the effort put
into the project.
I have found a quite peculiar behavior when using Xgl/compiz.
Sometimes my windows disappear, if i use ctrl+alt+shift+left/right i
can end up in an empty desktop and if I keep holding ctrl+alt+shift
and move back to the previous workspace the window moves back just as
if it had been moved previously. Also, if I move between workspaces
applications can disappear, I can see them in expose-mode and the
processes are running as they should, but when I click on the
application it zooms to the workspace where the application should
be.. but it's not there, not on the taskbar and not in the
application switcher. They come back after an arbitrary number of
rotates though, most of the time it's somewhere around 10 complete
rotations (ctrl+alt+shift+left 40 times) .. it could be that i have
missed some config-parameter but honestly, I have no idea what that
could be. It seems like there is some inconsistency between the way
gnome handles workspaces and the way compiz handles them. I've tried
searching for similar bugs but i haven't found anything.
The two programs that show this behavior most are Firefox (both 1.5
and 2.0), and OpenOffice.
I'm running ubuntu edgy with Xgl/compiz gnome (I encountered the
behavior on ubuntu dapper too).
This (if I remember right) is a bug that was introduced in beryl when
the plane
patches were applied, I think the short term solution is to change the
vertical size
to 2, upgrading to beryl might help. This doesn't seem to happen with
compiz.
