Thanks Adam, That has got to be what is going on. In kde3 I have the option, but usually just used fusion-icon and the pager worked fine. In openSuSE kde 4.3 (2.9.0) compiz 7.8, I can't find that setting in system settings at all and the pager is just stuck. In Archlinux with kde 4.3 (2.9.1) compiz 8.2, after plasma crashed and restarted, every thing was fine. I'll keep poking around and see if I can sort it out on openSuSE.
