Ok, just want to update. I've managed to repeat this bug in Ubuntu 9.10 as well as Linux Mint 8.
Took me a while to find how to repeat this but I think I may have finally found it. Using Ctrl+Alt+Left Mouse Button to rotate cube. I can reproduce this bug if I spin the cube in either one of the directions more than 720` (guesstimating) very quickly. Sometimes it won't happen but I've got somewhere between 50-70% repeat rate.
