I forgot to add, this is still a problem with compiz as well as in the normal mode (i.e., compiz switched off). I tried to set it via compizconfig-settings-manager and gconf-editor (in /apps/metacity/global_keybindings), I tried various possibilities, but none of them fixed the problem.
