I've got wine-1.1.44 and compiz 1:0.8.6-0ubuntu1~ppa1 in Lucid and it seems to be fixed.
I do have compiz's legacy fullscreen support turned off - maybe this is relevant? (Run ccsm and go to Utility/Workarounds), apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager if you need to install it.)
