Wanted to add my 2 cents here to get things up and running again. I'm running on the following:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device (rev 02) I've 'upgraded' with the GTT Incoherency Patch since video kept crashing, but now I'm randomly getting the same problem listed at the start - the title bars spontaneously disappear. The problem can be fixed by going into Appearance and changing it from none to anything else (it takes a while to search for drivers each time), but this is only temporary - eventually it just disappears again.
