I am still aware of the issue. It has been alleviated by X-Fixes being less of a problem, partly because FireFox doesn't have an animated cursor any more.
The defaults have been changed and a software cursor plus mouse panning is now the default, which means this isn't a problem with the default configuration - though most likely a problem if you explicitly reset the option. The defaults are not fixed in maverick to my knowledge, though I must confess to not checking.
