Update: the commands worked for a while, then didn’t.

Based on what I did in the mean time, I think the difference is the
“Enable integration into the desktop environment” setting in CCSM’s
preferences. If I’m right, this bug manifests itself when it’s set, and
bugs #704025 and #703755 when it’s unset. This is the only major
difference in my settings I can think of, although I think compiz went
through a few versions in the mean time. But the effects don’t seem to
be immediate for some reason (anyway, Compiz has been weird recently, it
seems that some bugs only manifest a while after starting up, and when I
run “compiz  --replace” I get all sorts of things not working, so it’s
kind of hard to check exactly).
